Chelsea suffered their second defeat in a matter of days as Wolves came from behind to seal a dramatic 2-1 win at Molineux

The Blues were inches away from opening the scoring through a Kurt Zouma header, but did take the lead shortly after the break when a rasping Olivier Giroud volley was adjudged to have crossed the line.

Wolves responded well and equalised through a wonderful Daniel Podence strike, the hosts then thought they had a penalty after Pedro Neto went down under a Reece James challenge. However, after a VAR check it was adjudged the Wolves forward had dived.

The game looked to be heading towards a draw until Pedro Neto’s stoppage-time run and finish completed the turnaround.

Here’s how we rated the Chelsea players after Frank Lampard’s men missed the chance to go to the top of the Premier League.

Chelsea player ratings vs Wolves

Edouard Mendy 5

Beaten at his near post for Podence’s equaliser, although the deflection didn’t help, he will feel he could have done better. Also question marks over the second as Neto’s strike arrowed into the corner.

Ben Chilwell 6

Gets forward so well and is a constant threat down the left-side,

Thiago Silva 6

Showed his experience to subdue his 18-year-old namesake, it was his poor clearing header that allowed Podence the chance to shoot.

Kurt Zouma 5

Almost added another thundering header to his growing collection, only to see his header strike the underside of the bar and come out. Neto dropped his shoulder and beat him for pace to score the dramatic winner, allowed him too much room.

Reece James 6

Allowed Podence to take a touch and twist and turn before firing home Wolves’ equaliser. Heart would have been in his mouth after referee Stuart Attwell awarded a penalty, but after a VAR check the correct decision was made.

Mason Mount 6

Interchanged well with Pulisic when he drifted over to the left-flank, was the most dangerous of Chelsea’s midfielders.

N’Golo Kante 7

Got through a ridiculous amount of work with his two midfield colleagues given more of a licence to get forward. Is so pivotal to everythng Chelsea want to do.

Kai Havertz 4

Completely ineffectual in the centre of the park. Withdrawn with twenty minutes to go as Lampard’s search to find his best position continues.

Christian Pulisic 6

Effortlessly drifted past Wolves defenders, with his solo run, the highlight of a pretty dour opening 45. Had little to no influence on the second half.

Olivier Giroud 7

Ball flashed to him following Zouma’s header, but he was unable to divert it in. Made no mistake just after the break to lash home an instinctive opener. Whenever he’s in the team he scores.

Timo Werner 4

Arguably his worst showing in a Chelsea shirt, loose with the ball and spurned a glorious chance. Worrying.

Substitutes

Mateo Kovacic (on for Havertz, 72) 5

Came on to add extra bite to midfield but with the exception of one shot, he had no impact.

Tammy Abraham (on for Giroud, 72) 6

Desperate to impress in his short cameo, but his arrival coincided with the hosts growing into the game.
