Eric Bailly signed a new Man Utd deal in April and has set his sights on regular football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but will have no issue in seeking pastures new if he doesn't enjoy more minutes

Eric Bailly insists he will not hesitate to "look for another solution" if he doesn't get the game time he's looking for at Manchester United.

It comes just weeks after the centre-half penned a new deal at Old Trafford.

Bailly arrived from Villarreal in 2016 when Jose Mourinho was in charge and signed a fresh contract in April that will keep him at the club until 2024.

Despite that the Ivorian has been in and out of the starting XI.

Harry Maguire has commanded a start and generally been paired with either Bailly or Victor Lindelof.

The latter has been used far more regularly which has left Bailly watching on from the bench, but the 27-year-old is not content to play that role moving forward.

He told The Times : “Competition is always good to improve. I just say that I want to stay in case I get the chance to play. I don’t want to be a starter one game and a substitute for another five.

“If that happens I will have to look for another solution. The new contract is fine but if I don’t play I will be open to listen to other proposals.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a huge decision to make in tonight's Europa League Final with Maguire set to miss out through injury.

It means the Norwegian will be seeking a makeshift defensive partnership. Bailly and Lindelof are expected to team up but youngster Axel Tuanzebe is also an option.

Solskjaer's selection could yet be telling but the Ivorian is ready to step up in the Europa League Final.

He said: "Solskjaer hasn’t told us anything yet but I’m in good shape and I hope to start against Villarreal."

Bailly has made 105 appearances in almost five seasons for United but 38 of those came in his debut year.

Injuries have certainly played their part with the centre-half spending lengthy periods out on the sideline.

United are understood to be in the market for a new defender this summer with Raphael Varane amongst those being linked.

But Bailly revealed how he and Solskjaer discussed his situation at Old Trafford before he committed his future to the club.

“I spoke to him and he told me he wanted me to stay," he added.

“The most important thing was not the renewal but the conversation we had: we sat down, we talked and he told me what he wanted from me and that he wanted me to continue.”
