The young winger arrived from Atalanta in the January transfer window and has already shown promising signs for Man Utd.

It isn't very often a teenager can make such an impact without doing a huge amount on a football field, but perhaps that is testament to the talent of Amad.

Within minutes of the Ivorian making his Manchester United debut, you could just tell he had something special. He played just 38 minutes across the two games against Real Sociedad in February and, on the surface, there was nothing much to write home about. But the feints, the touches, the perfectly-weighted passes told their own story.

Presumably this natural talent, which is so obvious whenever Amad makes an appearance, was the reason United scouts persuaded the club to part with a possible £37million for his services when agreeing a deal with Atalanta for him last summer.

They had precious little first team experience to go off. Amad never actually started a senior game for his previous club, yet with £19million in add-ons United were able to strike a deal that reflected the immense potential they saw.

If the 18-year-old goes on to become a superstar — and you wouldn't bet against it — they'll still have got value for money.

Amad's third United appearance — also off the substitutes' bench — yielded his first goal, a spectacular back-header against AC Milan that will live long in the memory. He then made his first two starts for the club in the Premier League dead rubbers against Leicester and Wolves at the end of the campaign and enhanced his reputation further.

Now, when you consider United's stock of wide forwards (they're not really wingers anymore in modern football), you have to consider Amad.

So while many fans ponder what the future holds for Mason Greenwood if United can finally sign Jadon Sancho this summer, they should also be considering another right-sided attacker.

It's impossible to suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be able to give Amad the game-time to develop as a long-term right-sided option in 2021/22 if Sancho arrives from Borussia Dortmund. You suspect the England international, together with fellow countryman Greenwood, would hold down that flank but the last thing United want is for Amad to stagnate.

He showed against Wolves and Leicester that he's more than capable playing between the lines as a No.10, on the left flank, or even as a false nine, which should give Solskjaer a nice problem next season.

It's understood United are not currently planning to send Amad out on loan — fellow young signing Facundo Pellistri is likely to head out again — but he has a challenge to compete with a frontline potentially jam-packed with talent.

So far for Amad, it's been about making those first baby steps into first team football.

Anything and everything he's done has been a bonus for the watching United fans and he's (understandably) escaped criticism. Next season, if he has Sancho, Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial to compete with, the pressure will crank up a notch or two. That's six players for three places. The Ivorian will turn 19 and he'll be expected to kick on.

Amad has this strange ability to stand completely still, almost motionless with the ball, toying with defenders. He plays with an unbelievable level of composure for such a rookie footballer.

He will need all of that maturity, confidence and poise to compete with his fellow United forwards next season. But the one thing he cannot do, is stand still.
