Jadon Sancho has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jadon Sancho would prefer to join Manchester United instead of Chelsea, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund star looks set to leave the Westfalenstadion in this summer’s transfer window. And a return to the Premier League looks to be on the cards.

While links to Manchester United have been constant, Chelsea have also emerged as potential suitors for Sancho.

The 21-year-old grew up supporting the Blues and, as Champions League winners, they’d certainly be an attractive proposition.

However, The Athletic say Sancho would prefer to join Manchester United instead.

It acknowledges talk of the Dortmund star potentially moving to Stamford Bridge but, now, that’s unlikely to happen.

For Manchester United, that’s good news. Sancho has been on their radar for a number of years, with Jose Mourinho first trying to bring him to the club back in 2017.

On that occasion, however, Sancho decided to move abroad to Germany instead - believing he’d stand a better chance of securing regular action.

He’s not been proven wrong, either, with the Dortmund star now regarded as one of the best wide wingers in the entire planet.

Sancho has scored 50 goals from 137 appearances for the German giants so far, helping them win the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup throughout his stint there.

But a move to United looks to be on the cards.

The Red Devils, should that happen, are likely to pay a fee of £80million - making him their joint second most-expensive signing in their entire history.

Paul Pogba currently holds the mantle for the Red Devils’ costliest arrival, paying £89m when he returned from Juventus back in the summer transfer window of 2016.

And a £80m move for Sancho would see him join Harry Maguire on the list, who cost the same amount upon touching down from Leicester two years ago.

The Dortmund star isn’t the only player on United’s radar, either, as they look to win the Premier League title next year.

A return for Cristiano Ronaldo is looking increasingly likely, with the Portugal international eager to leave Juventus behind.

He recently fuelled talk of a move away from the Allianz Stadium by thanking everybody at the club for their hard work over the past three years and, as things stand, a move back to his old club is a genuine possibility.

United want a defensive midfielder, with Declan Rice ticking all the boxes for Solskjaer and John Murtough.

And the likes of Raphael Varane, Pau Torres and Kieran Trippier are also under consideration as United look to close the gap on Manchester City next time out.

Speaking before United lost to the Europa League final to Villarreal, Gary Neville called on his side to pursue players of Sancho’s calibre.

"If Man Utd can win on Wednesday, this has been a really good season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it would demonstrate great progress,” he said.

"Then you are talking about recruitment - you are talking about Varane, Kane, Haaland, Sancho.

“Those players that you know can take them to that next level. There would be numbers in those attacking areas which means they would become more exceptional in front of goal.

"Then a player at the back that would give that partnership alongside [Harry] Maguire that you could see being there for three or four years and would really challenge and put United at the forefront of challenging City and Liverpool.

"But Solskjaer is going to have to do something exceptional because [Thomas] Tuchel, [Pep] Guardiola and [Jurgen] Klopp are exceptional winning managers and they are hungry and ruthless.

"They want to win relentlessly so Man Utd cannot think that, if they win the Europa League on Wednesday and finish in second, that they still do not need that jump up a level.

"They are still 12 points behind City, you have got to swing that four games and it does not happen easily.

"So United have got to do big things this summer and Wednesday is such an important moment in the club's history for Solskjaer and these players to get a medal around their necks."
