Manchester United could face Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire burnout concerns after Euro 2020

Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire have played more football than any other European player since May 2020

Manchester United could be left fearing burnout for some key players ahead of next season, after some alarming data was revealed.

A host of United players are currently plying their trade for their nations at the European Championships, which began on Friday.

The tournament is set to run until the final on July 11th, which comes just over a month before the starting weekend of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

That could lead to some issues if United players are involved deep into the competition and two players in particular will be of concern.

Date from the CIES Football Observatory shows United duo Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire have played more football than any other players involved in this summer's tournament since May 2020.

Fernandes has played 6472 minutes over 81 matches for club and country, with his amount of appearances being five higher than Chelsea's Mason Mount, his closest rival in the rankings.

Meanwhile, Maguire has played 6449 minutes and made 72 appearances for club and country in the same time-frame, while his numbers would have been considerably higher if it wasn't for the injury that brought a premature end to his season with United and saw him miss England's 1-0 victory over Croatia on Sunday.

Fellow defender Victor Lindelof has also featured regularly for club and country, with a total of 5708 minutes across 65 appearances - although United are aiming to land a new central defender to partner Maguire ahead of the start of next season.

Marcus Rashford has featured in 73 matches, accumulating a total of just under 5500 minutes, which will also be a concern due to the fact he has played through the pain barrier regularly this season.

United's presence in Euro 2020 continues today with Scott McTominay's Scotland, David de Gea's Spain and Lindelof's Sweden all in action.
