Kieran Trippier hopeful of Manchester United transfer

Kieran Trippier made arrangements to return to Manchester before Euro 2020 and Man United want to sign the England international.

Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier is optimistic about joining Manchester United before the transfer window closes.

The Manchester Evening News revealed before the European Championship started that Bury-born Trippier, 30, had made arrangements to permanently relocate to Manchester and sources have told the MEN he is confident a transfer to United will materialise.

Trippier has entered the last year of his Atletico deal and the club is under pressure to sell the England international this summer in order to obtain a fee.

United have primarily focused on completing the signing of Jadon Sancho and working on a deal to recruit Raphael Varane but are aiming to make a third significant signing.

Trippier started in every Atletico game he was available for last season as they won their first La Liga title in seven years and he was selected in England’s European Championship opener and the final.

Trippier also has no intention of joining United just to provide back-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who joined the club for £50million two years ago.

United coaches are unsatisfied with Wan-Bissaka’s attacking output and Trippier, a more proactive full-back, assisted Luke Shaw’s European Championship final opener against Italy.

Right-back Diogo Dalot has been told to report for pre-season training at United later this month despite interest from AC Milan. Dalot, who made his senior Portugal debut at the Euros, impressed United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on loan at Milan and could stay at the club if there is no breakthrough with Trippier.

Academy full-back Brandon Williams is intent on leaving on a season-long loan and the addition of Trippier could also grant Alex Telles permission to leave, as Trippier is capable of playing at left-back.

Roma have been linked with Telles, 28, as Jose Mourinho wants a left-back to offset the long-term absence of Leonardo Spinazzola, however Mourinho is understood to have not been consulted about any possible move for Telles.
