Manchester United fans rave over Tom Heaton's stunning 'point-blank save' vs Derby County
Tom Heaton was making his Manchester United debut against Derby County in a pre-season friendly when he pulled off a stunning save in the first-half to keep the Reds ahead.
New Manchester United signing Tom Heaton impressed fans during his debut against Derby County with a stunning save to keep it 1-0 to the Reds.
United took the lead through Tahith Chong in the first half when he pounced on a defensive error to win the ball back in the penalty area, before a dink ricocheted back off him and over the goalkeeper and allowed him to put the ball into the empty net.
A young United team containing nine academy graduates from the start, including Heaton, struggled defensively on occasions and they needed all of the 35-year-old goalkeeper's experience at one point in particular in the first half.
A Derby corner was floated into the back post and Rams defender Curtis Davies headed the ball back across the six-yard box for Phil Jagielka. The former Everton and Sheffield United defender reacted quickly to twist and back heel an effort towards goal but Heaton, who joined on a free transfer from Aston Villa this summer, got down low to his left quickly to keep his clean sheet in tact.
Reds fans reacted with joy at their only official summer signing so far's performance, with some even going as far as to state that he could challenge Dean Henderson and David de Gea for the number one jersey.
Heaton is likely to feature prominently in pre-season with Henderson and De Gea arriving later in the summer after their participation at Euro 2020 with England and Spain respectively.
