Manchester United transfer news LIVE Varane to Man Utd latest plus Goretzka and Declan Rice news

Follow throughout the day for the latest Man United transfer news as Jadon Sancho signing edges closer.

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an "agreement in principle" with Borussia Dortmund to sign winger Jadon Sancho.

United's statement confirmed a deal is in place to sign Sancho from the Bundesliga club and that the 21-year-old will undergo his medical and sign personal terms on a five-year contract once his involvement in the European Championship is over.

The two clubs reached an agreement over an €85million transfer fee on Wednesday and on Thursday morning Borussia Dortmund issued their own statement to the German stock exchange confirming that fee, which equates to £72.9million.

Elsewhere, United are considering signing two centre-backs to bolster their defence for an intended title challenge.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last week United are making progress on a deal for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and the club is also interested in Villarreal centre half Pau Torres.

Real Madrid 'interested' in Diogo Dalot

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revived his interest in Manchester United's Diogo Dalot, having wanted the Portuguese full-back at Everton 12 months ago.

Instead, Dalot went on loan to AC Milan, who are keen on his services once again, but Ancelotti is also still interested in a deal, according to reports cited by the Daily Star.

Cavani's 'key role' in Sancho signing

Jadon Sancho is on his way to Manchester United but the circumstances this summer could have been different.

That's according to the Athletic, who state the club would've prioritised the signing of a new striker had Edinson Cavani moved on.

With the Uruguayan signing a one-year extension, United focused on Sancho - who will complete a transfer after England's Euro 2020 exploits.

Sancho can give Manchester United something that Ronaldo gave them

The first time that Jadon Sancho gets the ball out of his feet at Old Trafford and sets off on one of his dribbles towards goal you will hear the clatter of 75,000 chairs being vacated at the same time.

Sancho is a winger who can get fans on their feet. He is an X-Factor attacker that dribbles with a purpose, as his returns for Borussia Dortmund in the previous couple of campaigns have confirmed.

It's fitting that Edinson Cavani looks set to vacate the No. 7 shirt and hand it to Sancho because, as popular as Cavani has been, that number should always go to United's most thrilling player.

And while the 21-year-old might not immediately be the best player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad, he might well be the one that everyone wants to see.

Pogba key to Varane deal?

Manchester United's transfer focus is now very much on Raphael Varane after confirming Jadon Sancho's arrival.

Spanish media now claim Varane is United's 'great goal' with AS claiming Paul Pogba's name will be put on the table during negotiations, amid Real Madrid's interest in the midfielder.

It doesn't seem likely that United will allow Pogba to be part of the deal, and are keen to wrap up the Varane transfer quickly and seamlessly.

Could Paul Pogba also be a pulling factor for Raphael Varane to join Manchester United?

Van de Beek training hard — with ex United man

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been spotted training for pre-season with former Red Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

The Dutch playmaker suffered a heart-breaking blow after sustaining a groin injury last month, forcing him to miss the Netherlands' Euro 2020 campaign.

It was a familiar feeling of disappointment for the 24-year-old after he endured a disappointing debut campaign at Old Trafford, following his £35million move from Ajax last September.

He started just four Premier League games for United in what was a frustrating first season in England, but looks to be training hard in an effort to bounce back ahead of next season's opener against Leeds United on August 14.

Van de Beek was spotted working out in a gym session with former United teammate and fellow countryman Fosu-Mensah, who is now at Bayer Leverkusen.

United 'keen' on Calvert-Lewin

Manchester United reportedly want to add the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin to England teammate Jadon Sancho.

According to The Sun, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on the Everton striker to further bolster his forward line. The 24-year-old scored 21 goals last season but, like Sancho, has been limited to just one substitute appearance for England in this summer's Euros.

United youngster joins Burnley

Burnley have announced the signing of Manchester United youngster Mark Helm on a two-year deal.

Highly-rated midfielder Helm has left United after 12 years with the club, leaving on a free transfer after failing to agree on a new contract with the club

The 19-year-olf has joined Burnley in the hope of first-team opportunities, citing former Red Dwight McNeil as an inspiration for the move to Turf Moor.

United linked with Goretzka and Declan Rice

United are eyeing a move for Leon Goretzka this summer, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a right-back, centre-back and right-winger as he works to make his squad capable of a sustained Premier League title challenge.

A new centre-midfielder is also on the wishlist, with West Ham's Declan Rice being admired by the club.

However, according to Bild, Bayern Munich star Goretzka has emerged as a potential target due to struggles in contract negotiations between the two parties.

The 26-year-old's contract expires in 2022 and talks have opened over an extension but his demands are reportedly giving the German champions a 'headache.'

It's claimed that Bayern are struggling to tie Goretzka, as well as Joshua Kimmich and Kingsley Coman, down to a longer deal as the dynamic midfielder is demanding similar money to Leroy Sane, whose wages disrupted the club's salary balance upon his move from Manchester City.

The report states that Bayern may struggle to keep hold of their stars which has alerted United to the possibility of making a move for Goretzka.

Manchester United trying to sign two centre backs in transfer window

Manchester United are considering signing two centre-backs to bolster their defence for an intended title challenge.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last week United are making progress on a deal for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and the club is also interested in Villarreal centre half Pau Torres.

Varane, 28, remains United's principal defensive target and the club is understood to want a second central defender signed this summer.

Marcus Rashford sends Jadon Sancho message after Manchester United announcement

England international Marcus Rashford has sent his new Manchester United teammate Jadon Sancho a welcome message, following the club's announcement of a deal being agreed for the Borussia Dortmund wideman.

Erling Haaland's father voices frustration over Jadon Sancho transfer

Alf-Inge Haaland, the father of Borussia Dortmund star Erling and former Manchester City captain, has voiced his frustrations after news emerged that Jadon Sancho’s move for Manchester United is nearing its conclusion.

United have agreed a £73million fee with Dortmund as Sancho is expected to sign a five-year deal in the coming days, after previously agreeing personal terms with the club.

The England international is expected to undergo a medical before being announced as an official United player by the end of the week.
