On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United will travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in a Premier League match.
During Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, Danny Mills believes his former club will have to be aware of the threat posed by five Manchester United players, which he believes will be a source of concern for his former club.
For the 187th time in competitive Manchester derby history, City and United will square off, with both teams looking to secure a crucial three points in order to achieve their respective goals this season. Pep Guardiola’s side could find themselves only three points clear at the top of the table come kickoff time, while Manchester United is battling to finish in the top four.
Having won 2-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture back in November, Chelsea are strong favorites to take all three points and extend their unbeaten run in the league and the FA Cup to three games this weekend. United, on the other hand, has enjoyed considerable success at the Etihad Stadium in recent years, having won their last three visits.
With that in mind, United will be confident in their ability to produce a surprise result that will boost their chances of finishing in the top four. Furthermore, Mills believes that star players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Paul Pogba, if they are at their best, will pose a significant threat to City’s title hopes.
In an interview with Genting Casino, Mills stated that “my head says that Manchester City should win this comfortably because of the way that they play, the way that they dominate the ball.” “However, there is always the issue of Manchester United having players who are capable of winning big games.
“Obviously, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best players in the world. Jadon Sancho has the ability to step up, as Paul Pogba has done in the past.
“These are all players who thrive in high-pressure situations, and they will regard playing in the Manchester derby as one of the most important games of the season, if not the most important game of the season for them overall.
“Now, if they all bring it, and unless they all turn up and stick in an achievement, it’s going to be difficult for Man City to come back.”
In spite of the fact that Mills is aware of the individual talent that United chief Ralf Rangnick has available to him in his squad, he believes that City will prove to be too strong. Despite this, he has praised the level of talent present among the Reds’ ranks.
He went on to say: “They have fantastic individuals, which is something you may not be aware of about Manchester United. They could make it very, very difficult for you.
“They also have some star players who would rather play against Manchester City or Liverpool than Watford, Burnley, or Norwich.
“Manchester United, in my opinion, will bring it. It all comes down to whether or not enough players show up on game day.” Although I expect Manchester City to win by a score of 3-1 or something similar, the caveat to that is that United has some very special, incredibly talented players who, if they show up, can easily turn the tables on Manchester City.”
