As news of Roman Abramovich's asking price for Chelsea surfaces, the Russian businessman appears to be getting closer to selling the club.

Possibly the most significant reshaping of Chelsea since the beginning of the century is in the works.
Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner of Chelsea, is now under increasing pressure to sell the London-based club or face financial sanctions as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week.

Abramovich, a Russian tycoon with a net worth of over £9 billion (according to Forbes), is well-connected to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and as tensions in Ukraine rise, the oligarch may now consider selling UK assets, including Chelsea Football Club.

An offer to buy out Roman Abramovich has already been made to Swiss billionaire Horsjerb Wyss.

According to Swiss daily Blick, “Abramovich is seeking to sell all of his houses in England and also wants to get rid of Chelsea swiftly” (as quoted by Sky Sports).

On Tuesday, I and three other people received an offer from Abramovich to acquire Chelsea from us. I’ll have to wait a few days longer now. Abramovich is currently demanding way too much of the situation.

“You should be aware that Chelsea owes him £2billion….” That’s not the case for Chelsea. As of right now, we have no idea what the final selling price will be.

At Chelsea, I can see myself starting out together with a group of co-workers. But first and foremost, I need to assess the overall situation.

“I can tell you this much right now: I’m not going to accomplish something like this by myself.” With a group of six or seven investors, I can acquire Chelsea. ”

The newest development in the rapidly unfolding narrative comes from the Daily Mail, which reports that Abramovich is wanting at least £3 billion for Chelsea – a valuation that, if achieved, would place the sale of Chelsea at the top of the list of the world’s most expensive football club transactions ever, surpassing the Glazer family’s takeover of Manchester United (£731 million) in 2005 by more than £2 billion, according to Knelnow.

There’s been a total of 21 major trophies won by the Blues under Abramovich, including five Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns (2011–12 and 2020–21).
