West Ham boss David Moyes has singled out defender Craig Dawson for criticism following his poor performance in Wednesday night’s game, which allowed Southampton to score a deciding goal.
A 3-1 loss to the Saints was a tremendous disappointment for the Hammers, and Dawson was far from shining in the closing stages.
Dawson’s error allowed Armando Broja to score, and Moyes was plainly enraged after the game, expressing his displeasure with the situation.
As Moyes explained after the game, “I haven’t seen it again, but Daws should never have let Broja to go anywhere near the chance to get in on goal.”
“And that’s where it all starts, you understand.” If you make a mistake or are in the incorrect place, you may find yourself in a difficult situation (you get punished).
“That’s exactly what we were.”
Now that the FA Cup is over, West Ham must focus on securing European football next year despite the disappointment of their exit from this year’s competition.
