Manchester United take on Jose Mourinho's Tottenham today as the transfer deadline approaches.

United have until tomorrow night to conclude any transfer business, with Jadon Sancho and Alex Telles among the top target heading towards the deadline. Sancho was not in the Borussia Dortmund squad yesterday, with the German side officially putting his absence down to illness.

Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona is also on the United radar, with Ronald Koeman saying the winger has not spoken to him about any move, while Diogo Dalot looks to be heading on loan to AC Milan.

Harry Maguire should return for United against Spurs later, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming he's back after missing the Brighton win in midweek:

"Harry had a knock after the league game, holding his ankle," Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. "He should be okay. Apart from that I think we're okay, no more injuries from the cup game."

A statement reads:

"The defender has chosen to wear jersey number 5."

Maguire provides transfer update

Harry Maguire has assured Manchester United's fans the club is doing everything it can to improve the squad ahead of Monday's deadline.

United have signed just one player during the summer window thus far, with the Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek arriving in September. United are set to sign free agent Edinson Cavani after the Uruguayan's contract at PSG expired earlier this year, but have been frustrated in their attempts to land priority target Jadon Sancho. United also want to sign Porto's left-back Alex Telles but have not yet been able to agree a fee for the Brazilian.

Maguire praised his new team-mate Van de Beek in an interview with Sky Sports ahead of United's game against Tottenham, as he said further new signings will help the squad.

He told Sky Sports: “We brought in Donny, who is a great player. He’s settled in brilliantly, but I’m sure he’ll still improve. The window is still open, I know the club and how it works and they’ll be working tirelessly to try and strengthen our squad.

Alex Telles latest

FC Porto have decided to keep Alex Telles, according to reports from Portugal.

Record report the club's president Pinto da Costa is unwilling to sell the Brazilian and will inform manager Sergio Conceicao that he is available for selection.

Da Costa is unwilling to lower their asking price and accept United's offer as he believes it would hurt Porto's stature.

Rooney weighs in on Henderson and De Gea debate

Wayne Rooney has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to start David de Gea in the league ahead of Dean Henderson.

Henderson has kept two clean sheets in his League Cup appearances but Solskjaer has opted for the Spaniard in all of United's league matches.

Rooney agrees with his decision:

"It’s right that Ole is continuing with David De Gea in league matches. He’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I know him well, a strong character who may seem quiet because he’s rarely in the media but that’s just because he’s not fussed about publicity and doing interviews. Last season was not his finest and there’s this idea that in Dean Henderson he suddenly has “proper competition”.

"I don’t think that’s true: people forget David has had a top-class keeper behind him for the past five years in Sergio Romero. So he can deal with competition. The difference with Henderson is that, because he’s English, there’ll be a lot of media pushing for him to play. Henderson clearly has character about him and I’d imagine he’ll be speaking to Ole, saying “put me in”. If David makes the mistakes he made last year I’m sure Henderson will get opportunities — but don’t bet against David having a very good season."

Diogo Dalot arrives in Milan ahead of United exit

He is set to leave United on loan to join AC Milan.

Saha on Cavani

Louis Saha believes Edinson Cavani will be an excellent signing for Manchester United.

He wrote on Twitter:

"I thought Christmas was December. Cavani is a top signing.

"Goal scorer and huge source of energy inspiration. Man Utd will dominate transition cause of his work rate."

Rooney tells United to sign Tariq Lamptey

Wayne Rooney believes United should target Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey as well as a new forward and centre-back.

He wrote in The Sunday Times:

"Personally, if I were doing their recruiting, as well as that No 9 I’d go for another centre half to partner Harry Maguire and try for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Tariq Lamptey, who looks a brilliant attacking right back.

"While Aaron Wan-Bissaka has done OK defensively, you want United full backs to put the opposition on the back foot when the team have the ball and I don’t think he does that. Luke Shaw can at times but you always worry from a fitness point of view whether he can do it for 90 minutes so I think full back is an area where United could really improve."

Edinson Cavani's agent confirms United agreement

The agent of Edinson Cavani has confirmed his client has reached an agreement with Manchester United.

He told Inside Futbol:

"It’s true.

“There is an agreement [with Manchester United].”

United should sign Kane instead of Sancho - Rooney

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes the Reds should focus on signing Harry Kane rather than Jadon Sancho.

He wrote in The Sunday Times:

"Jadon Sancho is a top player, but I find it odd that he has been Manchester United’s transfer priority. Why consider paying close to £100 million for someone similar to talent you’ve got already? United have Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and where would Sancho’s arrival leave Mason Greenwood, who plays in the same position and is of similar age?

"I’d rather put that £100 million towards trying to get Harry Kane. Yes, getting Kane out of Tottenham would be difficult, maybe impossible, but United are a club who should always make an effort to sign the very best players and Kane is exactly what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs, as is Erling Haaland, who United missed out on last year — a genuine No 9.

"There are not many who fit that profile and are of elite standard in football right now — yet the chances of United developing into a title-challenging team would be greater if they had such a player.

"A Kane or Haaland or someone like Robert Lewandowski would give Rashford and Martial someone to play off and freedom to roam into different areas, pick the ball up and try to beat men — without the burden of always having to score."

Cavani move explained

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for striker Edinson Cavani and see his leadership and experience as vital ingredients to add to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer and has been linked with a number of Europe's top clubs, but United are set to bring him in to add valuable competition to the forward line at the start of a season that will stretch resources like never before.

Odion Ighalo is currently acting as back-up to Anthony Martial but he has struggled for form at the start of the season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has always stressed the need to have competition in attacking areas.

It is understood Cavani's track-record of winning trophies in Europe with Napoli and PSG appeals to the club, with Solskjaer building a young squad at Old Trafford under the Norwegian. The forward has won 20 honours in his time in Europe and also claimed the Copa America with Uruguay in 2011.

United fans have new Jadon Sancho transfer theory

Manchester United fans have not yet given up hope of Jadon Sancho moving to Old Trafford before Monday's transfer deadline.

The Borussia Dortmund star has been at the centre of this summer's biggest story, with United keen to bring the 20-year-old back to England.

However Dortmund insist Sancho will not be sold in this window, which closes at 11pm on Monday.

United appear unwilling to meet the German club's €120million asking price for the England international.

But could there yet be another late twist in the saga?

Sancho did not feature in Wednesday's Super Cup defeat to Bayern Munich and Dortmund said the winger was suffering from a "respiratory infection".

Today Sancho is absent once again for Bundesliga clash with Freiburg, prompting more speculation among United fans on social media, with Dortmund responding from their official Twitter account to say: "As in Munich, Jadon Sancho and Roman Bürki are still sidelined with respiratory infections."

Koeman issues Ousmane Dembele update

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has provided an update on the future of Ousmane Dembele.

The Reds have no intention of signing the 23-year-old on a permanent deal this summer but could make a loan move for the Barcelona forward.

United are expected to make a last-ditch move for long-time transfer target Jadon Sancho before the summer deadline but Dembele could be an alternative.

Barcelona have denied they are in talks with United but the Spanish giants may be forced to offload the player due to their financial situation.

Koeman, meanwhile, has now offered up the latest on Dembele's future by explaining that the ball is firmly in the court of the Frenchman.

"Dembele is a Barcelona player, [his future] depends on what he thinks. I've not spoken clearly with him about it. We will see, two days left," Koeman said.

Leeds owner rules out move for Man United winger Daniel James

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has ruled out a summer move for Manchester United winger Daniel James.

The Yorkshire side had been weighing up a possible deal to sign the Wales international before deadline day but now look like they will turn their attentions elsewhere.

MEN Sport revealed earlier in the week Leeds managing director Angus Kinnear attended United's Carabao Cup win at Luton, where James was an unused substitute.

James was always expected to resist a departure from United having only signed last summer and the 22-year-old remains the most obvious back-up option should any of the preferred front three need a rest.

The Welsh winger was pictured arriving for United training on Saturday morning ahead of the Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur and looks like he'll be staying at the club given the latest noise from Leeds.

Speaking about the United forward Radrizzani admitted James is on top of their transfer wish list but claimed his side won't be making a move for him this summer.
