The Championship club can still buy or sell players after Man United made a deadline day approach to sign Sarr as a Jadon Sancho transfer alternative.

Watford are open to the idea of selling Ismaila Sarr to Manchester United before the transfer deadline for Football League clubs.

EFL sides have until October 16th to complete their business for the summer, with Watford keen to cash in on Sarr if they can.

MEN Sport reported that the Hornets knocked back a United bid for the Senegalese winger on deadline day, as the Old Trafford club sounded out potential Jadon Sancho alternatives.

United wanted to do a loan deal for either Sarr or Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele and made an offer of an initial season-long loan with the option to buy at £25million, but Watford rejected it, preferring an outright permanent deal. It is understood they value the 22-year-old at around £45million.

While United could still sign Sarr with the right offer, they needed to have completed a transfer by Monday (October 6th) if he was to be registered for the group phase of their upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.

It remains to be seen whether United will make a new approach for Sarr, or Bournemouth's David Brooks who could also be available.

United have considered both players but MEN Sport understands they are unlikely to delve into the Championship and are happy with their summer signings of Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani.

They did not get their top target of Sancho but instead signed young wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo from Penarol and Atalanta respectively. The two 18-year-olds are billed as hot prospects for the future, with Pellestri going straight into the first team squad and Diallo arriving in January, pending visa issues.
