The prestigious awards ceremony will take place on Saturday with the winner voted for by players around the Premier League

The six stars nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award have been announced - with four of those in the running plying their trade at
Manchester City.

The prestigious award, which was last year won by Kevin De Bruyne, recognises the outstanding performers throughout the most recent season, and is voted for by the players themselves.

Given their runaway Premier League win it is unsurprising to see City players dominating the nominations, and Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan and De Bruyne are all in the running.

Centre-back Dias has been a revelation since joining from Benfica in the summer, and wasted no time at all in forming a formidable partnership in defence with John Stones.

Foden, meanwhile, has had something of a breakthrough campaign, and at the age of just 20 has dazzled with his performances in attacking midfield.

And he is also included in the nominees for PFA Young Player of the Year to exemplify just how impressive he has been.

German midfielder Gundogan has enjoyed his most prolific season ever after finding the net 17 times in 46 games in all competitions.

And De Bruyne will look to become the first man to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards since Cristiano Ronaldo won it in the 2006-07 and 07-08 seasons.

The other two nominees outside of City are Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes and Harry Kane of Tottenham.

Fernandes has once again almost single-handedly carried United at times, and his 28 goals in all competitions is the most ever in a single season for a Premier League midfielder, beating Frank Lampard's record of 27 in the 2008-09 campaign.

Kane, meanwhile, won the Golden Boot for the third time in his career with 23 Premier League strikes, while he also finished top of the assist list after creating 14 goals for his teammates.

The winner of the award will be revealed this Saturday, and it could well be a close-run battle.

The most notable absentees from the top six list include Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who again had an impressive campaign with 22 Premier League goals, along with Chelsea's Mason Mount and Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.

The women's list is dominated by Manchester City and Chelsea, with three nominations apiece, including England star Fran Kirby and WSL top scorer Sam Kerr.

Manchester United's Lauren James, younger sister of Chelsea and England men's star Reece, is nominated for the women's young player award.
