Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek are in need of more game time for Man Utd and this Thursday's Premier League trip to Sheffield United looks ideal.

In 11 Premier League games so far this season Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named only one unchanged Manchester United team, so the conundrum for Thursday's trip to Bramall Lane isn't if there will be changes, but how many and who.

Solskjaer picked the same side for the goalless draw at Chelsea as he did for the win at Newcastle but other than rotation has, wisely, been the order of the say.

There were two changes from the Chelsea game to the Arsenal defeat, then two more Everton, two for West Brom and two for Southampton. Then there was five changes at West Ham and five more for the dire derby draw with Manchester City.

That Solskjaer has navigated United to a position where they are only five points off top spot in the Premier League, with a game in hand, while making plenty of alternations to his starting XI, is encouraging, because as this season goes on it's going to become survival of the fittest.

So far only six United players have started more than seven of the 11 league games, although all six have started 10 or more. Harry Maguire is the only player to have begun all 11, while Bruno Fernandes, Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and David de Gea all have 10 Premier League starts to their name.

Solskjaer has spent plenty of time in press conferences this season pointing out United's lack of pre-season and there's been little time to catch up on the training ground, with games twice a week every week so far, a pattern that will continue into January at least.

So the best the Norwegian can do is try and rest key players where possible, rather than carrying out fitness work or too much high-intensity training at Carrington.

The midweek trip to Sheffield United looks an ideal time to do just that. United will have mixed memories of this fixture from last season, recovering from going 2-0 down to lead 3-2 with a stunning comeback, only to concede a late equaliser. It was an afternoon when Solskjaer got his tactics wrong and United were second best for large parts of the game.

But this Sheffield United are a very different prospect and they're bruised from the worst start for any team in the Premier League era. The Blades have just one point from 12 matches and already look like certainties for the drop, so United should be able to get the win in South Yorkshire, especially with their own away record so impressive.

With United back in action on Sunday with a much trickier looking game against Leeds United, this looks an ideal opportunity to rotate once again and two players, in particular, deserve a start.

Dean Henderson has done nothing wrong when he's had the chance to impress this season and the 23-year-old needs to be given more opportunities in the Premier League. A return to the club he spent the previous two seasons on loan at looks perfect.

In midfield, Donny van de Beek can also come in, perhaps for Fernandes, who can be rested for bigger battles to come, with the option to bring him off the bench as Solskjaer did at West Ham United.

Van de Beek was an unused substitute in the derby and his United career is very much a slow burn at the moment, but the Dutchman should be good enough to create chances for the forwards against the Premier League's bottom club and he is another player who needs to be given game time where possible.

There have been only two Premier League starts so far for Van de Beek and he'd have expected more, but Thursday looks like an opportunity to continue his introduction to English football and to United's style.
